Research only: these cover descriptions are not accepted, buyer-specific policies. The sources do not establish current full terms, a matched premium, acceptance of your risk or an active buying route. Buy opens an on-site availability notice only.

Team-supplied product records. Compare the stated cover and conditions; confirm current availability and terms with the responsible insurer.

What these information labels mean
Not yet verified—confirm with insurer.
A detail is missing or has not been established by the current evidence. This does not mean a benefit is excluded.
Not applicable
Use only where the policy evidence establishes that the particular field does not apply. Missing information is not treated as not applicable.
In discussion with the policy provider.
Use only for a named product with a current, record-specific report of actual discussions. Details remain unconfirmed; the label does not establish a partnership or buying route.
Under review
Use only when an actual review is underway. It does not mean the review has been completed or the policy approved.
Quote required
No comparable current payable premium is established here. Ask the insurer for the applicable price, compulsory charges and conditions.
How these descriptions were selected

Owner-approved editorial listings use the team's completed 17 October intake. COMPLETED is an intake status, not contractual verification. Exact product/document references remain internal; company homepages are navigation only.

Provider-group counts are not verified legal-underwriter counts. Team confirmation is retained; no independent contractual review is claimed.

The five source checks are shown separately on each description. They are evidence-status notes, not a product score or recommendation; “unconfirmed” does not mean a benefit is excluded.

Alphabetical by insurer name, with no product score or price ranking.

Choose up to three descriptions. Published prices, rates and periods are shown as stated by their sources, not normalised into a price order.

0 of 3 descriptions selected.

Choose the care route before the medical plan

Map my care route

For one consultation or admission, which member record, facility and payer will actually work? Kenya’s SHA funds, employer benefit and private insurance are different routes—not three interchangeable promises.

Owner-approved editorial edition · no quote, medical-data form or insurer handoff.

01 · Who is responsible?

Four records can affect one treatment, but they do not pay the same way

The Ministry’s SHA explainer describes the Primary Healthcare, Social Health Insurance, and Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness funds. A registered household still needs a service-specific member, referral and facility answer. The 5 October 2026 Ministry notice described a temporary extension of existing SHA facility contracts through 14 October during the HAKIKA 2026–2029 contracting cycle. It does not confirm that a named facility remains contracted for a later appointment; check its current service-specific status directly.

Start with the payer and the proof needed for the named service
RouteWhat it can answerProof to request

Work injuryA separate occupational route under Kenya’s Work Injury Benefits Act, not routine family care.Employer’s work-injury process and legal/insurer response for the event.

Tariff status matters. The Ministry’s 2026 SHA tariff regulatory-impact statement discusses proposed changes. It is not evidence that those proposed figures are operative, or that a named member’s bill will be paid at that rate.

A child needs cover, not necessarily an insured parent

Compare the child’s limit and everyday care separately

A child-only policy can be a different decision from adding a dependant to an adult policy. Start with the child’s accepted entry date, whether siblings share one pot, and whether ordinary consultations need an outpatient addition. The three insurer-owned routes below were checked on 16 October; they are research comparisons, not three release-qualified policies. Prices remain Quote required for the chosen children and benefits.

Child-only routes: limit sharing and selected extras can change the comparison
Child routePublished structureSettle before applying
AAR · AAR company homepageInpatient is the core; outpatient is optional. Several children can share one annual limit, or each can have an individual limit.Ask for the actual entry-age rules, condition waits and selected limits; the summary does not supply them. Price the same children on both sharing bases.
Jubilee · Jubilee company homepageThe live page describes ages 0–18. Its Jubilee company homepage says 0–17 and makes outpatient optional, with family-shared inpatient and per-person outpatient limits.Resolve eligibility at age 18 and which document governs the selected plan. The brochure retains NHIF-era coordination text; it is not proof of today’s SHA deduction or co-pay.
Britam · Britam company homepageThe parent need not be insured. Its Britam company homepage labels inpatient limits per child; outpatient is an addition to inpatient, not a standalone purchase.Confirm newborn entry and the adult-plan transition date. The brochure’s lower-entry wording is unclear; do not interpret it as automatic cover from birth. Check the selected condition sublimit and wait.

One family budget does not always mean one shared benefit

Illustrative arithmetic, not an insurer offer: two siblings share a hypothetical KSh 1,000,000 annual inpatient pot. If an eligible admission uses KSh 700,000, KSh 300,000 remains for both, before any other use. Two separate KSh 1,000,000 limits would leave the other child’s pot untouched by that admission. Neither arrangement removes room, condition or procedure sublimits. Compare premiums only after making the sharing basis explicit.

For a baby, obtain written acceptance of the birth date and any prematurity or congenital-condition terms. For a teenager, ask when adult cover must start and whether continuity or new underwriting applies. Do not send birth certificates or medical reports to AfriPolicyCover.

Parents and retirees

New-entry age is not the same as renewal age

A promise of no maximum exit age does not say that a new applicant of any age can join. Check the insurer’s age calculation, new-entry ceiling, medical assessment and renewal terms separately. These four routes add detail within the existing insurer research, not four more insurers or accepted policies. All selected household premiums remain Quote required.

Senior routes: compare who can join, who shares the limit and which benefits are extras
Parent or senior routePublished distinctionAcceptance question
AAR · AAR company homepageUp to three seniors share inpatient cover. Outpatient is optional and priced per member; optional dental/optical need outpatient first. The oldest member’s age band affects inpatient pricing. The newer summary does not state joining ages. An AAR company homepage gives 65–85, age next birthday. Do not attach that age band to the newer structure without written confirmation.
CIC · CIC company homepageEntry ages 60–80, with principal and spouse but no child dependants. Inpatient is family-shared; outpatient limits are per person.Confirm medical-entry acceptance, the two members’ limits and hospital co-pay. A transfer does not waive a waiting period without written approval; see the condition-specific clocks.
Jubilee · Jubilee company homepageThe audience section specifies 65–79, while the introduction says 65+ and the FAQ describes no renewal-age limit. The page lists outpatient, dental/optical and home-care benefits.Request the actual new-entry ceiling and renewal basis for the applicant. Do not turn “65+” or an unlimited renewal age into acceptance of a first-time applicant aged 80 or more.
Britam · Britam company homepageThe page describes entry from 55 and no maximum exit age. Its Britam company homepage also separates chronic-care and psychiatric sublimits from the larger cover.Confirm the upper new-entry age, dependant ages and selected schedule. Published waits include 12 months for chronic/pre-existing conditions and 24 months for transplants; those are not an immediate-payment promise.

Ask about the parent’s actual care, not only the headline limit

For regular prescriptions, identify the outpatient balance, refill rules and current clinic or pharmacy panel. For a possible admission, ask which condition sublimit applies and whether the selected specialist and procedure need approval. A shared inpatient pot and separately priced outpatient benefits can coexist; request both figures for each parent before comparing the total premium.

02 · Local insurer evidence

Eleven Kenya insurer routes, with the differences beside them

The IRA notice dated 30 March 2026 was the dated class 12 (Medical) identity baseline for these legal insurers. Its URL returned an HTML verification page during the 16 October recheck, rather than a readable PDF; the dated match has not been refreshed. Each product description is insurer-owned, but the employer/group route is not a retail family policy. Current authorisation, individual acceptance and the selected contract need separate proof.

Takaful Insurance of Africa Limited · Takaful Africa company homepageEmployer/group medical route for staff and families; not a general household quote.Group eligibility, participating entity, chosen benefits and issued terms.

Publication boundary: eleven medical insurer routes remain in this table, including one group route; zero complete, current, accepted and like-for-like household policy files or matched KSh premiums have been verified. Madison's direct recheck timed out; Heritage's older URL redirected to its lowercase product page, but repeat access was inconsistent. Their descriptions remain qualified research. Confirm the legal entity and class through the IRA directory; a broker or medical administrator is not automatically the underwriter.

Source removed from the comparison: Pacis Amani Medical's HTML contained an unrelated gambling backlink when checked on 16 October. Its link and product row are excluded pending a clean source or insurer-issued document. This is a source-integrity finding, not a finding about licensing, solvency or claim payment.

Before choosing a start date

A live membership card can still leave a benefit waiting

Activation, an accident, an ordinary illness and a previously diagnosed condition can start different clocks. These are source-specific published terms checked on 16 October, not a personal eligibility decision. Ask the selected insurer to put the applicable start date, condition acceptance and any waiver in writing.

Compare the same event; do not transfer one product's waiting periods to another
Insurer productPublished timingDecision before relying on it
GA Kenya company homepageNo accident wait; 30 days for illness; 60 days for surgical cases.Confirm how the selected surgery, maternity or disclosed condition is classified; the short page does not settle every benefit.

Accidents have no wait. The transfer route requires review and written waiver approval. A previous policy alone does not establish a waiver.
MUA company homepage60 days for non-accident hospitalisation; 30 days for general outpatient illness; one year for pre-existing/chronic conditions. Its benefit table gives cancer two years.Confirm the condition-specific schedule and continuity waiver. Ordinary illness and cancer do not share one universal waiting date.
AAR company homepageThe page describes waits for maternity and chronic/pre-existing benefits but leaves their exact lengths to the policy documents.Obtain the current schedule; do not fill a missing period with another insurer's 30-day or 12-month figure.
Jubilee company homepageThe FAQ describes 24–48-hour activation after payment for individual/family plans and separately warns that some benefits have waiting periods.Request the selected benefit's wait. Administrative activation does not establish immediate maternity or chronic-condition payment.

Read the document behind the headline

Resolve the conflict before treating a benefit as confirmed

A larger headline limit cannot answer a contradictory sublimit or an uncertain joining age. Britam's Britam company homepage describes commencement after application and payment; that does not resolve the linked benefits' waiting periods. Keep the source version beside the insurer's written clarification and selected schedule. None of the disputed figures below is counted as a confirmed benefit or a premium.

Specific source disagreements to resolve in the written offer

Britam Bronze rehabilitationThe Britam company homepage excludes alcohol/substance rehabilitation for Bronze. Its linked Britam company homepage, lists KSh 50,000 after 24 months.Whether rehabilitation is included in the exact current Bronze option, its waiting period, sublimit and controlling endorsement.
Britam Platinum chronic-condition ceilingThe Britam company homepage has level-dependent chronic sublimits on printed page 4, while its page-9 FAQ and website use broader full-inpatient-limit language after the relevant wait or policy year. The selected inpatient level, condition, policy year, remaining sublimit and the clause resolving the apparent conflict.
MUA joining versus renewal ageThe MUA company homepage gives a maximum joining age of 60 next birthday; its general conditions describe ages up to 65 and older-member continuation.Eligibility for the actual age and whether the quoted rule concerns new entry or renewal; do not assume the higher age is available to a new applicant.
Older NHIF deductions in benefit tablesThe CIC family and MUA descriptions still contain NHIF-era bed-charge language. That text does not establish how a current SHA payment is coordinated. The current public/private settlement order, bed-rate deduction and patient share for the actual admission.

Price basis: Quote required. No matched household premium is established here. Ask for the same members, benefit limits, panel, period, levies, instalment charges and selected extras in each written offer before comparing cost.

03 · Make two offers comparable

Use the same person, service and facility in both requests

01 / Member and time

Give the same ages and dependant relationships. Ask when cover begins, whether a waiting period applies, and what changes after leaving an employer or turning a stated age.

02 / Care and network

Specify consultation, scan, medicine, admission or maternity separately. Verify the department and doctor as well as the hospital. Ask whether a referral, pre-authorisation, formulary or chosen pharmacy applies.

03 / Money and limits

Ask whether limits are per person or shared, which sublimit applies, what a co-pay is based on, whether settlement is direct or reimbursed, and whether the quoted KSh premium includes levies and the same billing period.

A high annual inpatient limit is not a substitute for outpatient access. A hospital name on a panel does not by itself establish that a specialist, medicine or procedure is covered. Compare dated written schedules, not marketing headings.

04 · Invented arithmetic, real questions

A KSh 68,000 visit can have four different decisions

This example is deliberately fictional: consultation KSh 2,000 + scan KSh 16,000 + medicines KSh 5,000 + day procedure KSh 45,000 = KSh 68,000. Neither SHA nor any named insurer has approved these services or amounts. Apply the named member’s actual route line by line before estimating an out-of-pocket balance.

05 · When care is needed

Keep the evidence usable without exposing a patient here

  1. Before planned care

Confirm member status, facility, referral, approval and expected patient share through the responsible official channel.

  2. At the facility

Keep the itemised estimate, service codes if supplied, admission or consultation record and the name/date of the response.

  3. After the bill

Reconcile each approved, declined and patient-paid line against the current benefit schedule and receipts.

  4. For a dispute

Ask the fund or insurer for written reasons; preserve the complaint trail and use the IRA route for an unresolved private-insurance issue.

Keep the insurer's actual clock: Jubilee company homepage state submission within 90 days of illness and completion of missing documents within 10 working days after notice. They also say submission does not guarantee payment. These are Jubilee's published rules, not universal Kenya deadlines; confirm the selected policy's notice and evidence requirements promptly.

Medical reports, SHA numbers and claim files belong in verified scheme or insurer channels, not on this research page. The ODPC privacy guidance is a separate official route for personal-data concerns.

Health-insurance questions in Kenya

Does SHA registration mean every service is covered?

No. Confirm the applicable fund, active member, service, referral, contracted facility and patient share for the appointment date.

Are the Ministry’s 2026 SHA tariff figures already in force?

The linked regulatory-impact statement presents proposed changes, not proof of enacted or operative rates. Ask the responsible SHA channel for the current service-specific tariff and decision.

What changes around the October 2026 SHA facility contracts?

The Ministry said existing contracts were extended to 14 October 2026 during HAKIKA contracting. Check the facility’s current SHA status when booking and again before care; do not infer a later outcome from the notice.

Are the eleven insurer routes verified policies I can buy?

No. They are insurer-owned descriptions with a dated IRA Medical-class identity baseline, and one is an employer/group route. Current authorisation, selected policy terms, matched quotes and eligibility remain to be established.

Is an insurance broker or medical administrator the insurer?

Not necessarily. Ask which legal entity underwrites the medical risk, check its current IRA class, and find that entity in the issued schedule.

Can I use any doctor at an in-network hospital?

Do not assume so. Verify the exact practitioner, department, service and date, together with referral and pre-authorisation rules.

Does a family limit give each person that amount?

Only if the accepted wording says it is per person. A shared family limit can be reduced by another member’s use; ask for the remaining balance.

Is outpatient care included with inpatient cover?

It varies. AAR describes outpatient as an optional addition to its retail inpatient cover, while other product routes have different options. Check the selected schedule.

Can I insure my child without buying cover for myself?

Britam’s Milele Junior page explicitly allows this. AAR Junior CAARE and Jubilee J-Junior also describe child-focused routes, but entry, limits and selected benefits still need their own acceptance. A child-only plan is not proof that a parent is insured.

Can an eighteen-year-old join Jubilee J-Junior?

The live page says 0–18, but the currently linked J-Care-Junior brochure says 0–17. Obtain Jubilee’s written current joining rule and selected contract rather than assuming the larger age range applies.

Does a senior plan with no exit age accept every new applicant?

No such conclusion follows. New-entry age, medical acceptance and renewal age are separate checks. Jubilee’s audience section gives 65–79, and Britam’s no-exit-age statement does not establish an unlimited new-entry age.

Are two parents given separate inpatient limits?

Not always. AAR Senior Medical describes shared inpatient cover for up to three seniors; CIC Seniors also describes family-shared inpatient. Check the selected sharing basis and remaining pot separately from outpatient benefits.

Will a private plan pay what SHA does not?

Only if the private policy covers that service and its coordination, network, limit, excess and patient-share terms allow payment. Registration alone does not settle the order.

Can employer medical cover replace work-injury obligations?

No automatic substitution follows. Kenya’s Work Injury Benefits Act concerns occupational responsibilities; confirm that route separately from a general employee medical scheme.

How do I challenge a rejected medical claim?

Request written reasons and the policy clause or fund rule, keep itemised invoices and approvals, follow the responsible complaint process, then use the regulator’s current route for an unresolved insurer issue.

Does immediate policy activation remove waiting periods?

No. A cover start date and a benefit's eligibility date can differ. Ask for the applicable wait or approved waiver for each service or condition before relying on activation.

Which Britam document settles the disputed benefits?

This research cannot choose between the conflicting published summaries. Obtain the current selected schedule, wording and insurer clarification for Bronze rehabilitation or Platinum condition limits before treating either promise as confirmed.

Which medical insurer is cheapest for my family?

No matched family premium set has been verified here. Compare written quotes with the same ages, benefits, facility access and payment period; a lower price with a different limit or patient share answers another question.

Do you collect diagnoses or send patients to insurers?

No. This editorial page has no medical-data form, application, quote, personal eligibility decision or provider redirect.

Before accepting a plan: ask for the legal insurer, named member, selected benefits, current network, accepted wording, KSh quote and a written answer for the care you expect. This edition remains private until those proofs and the country release gates pass.
