Buy the policy for the car and trips you actually have.
Build the five-field quote briefThe cheapest premium, a valid certificate and a policy that repairs your own car are three different things. Give every insurer the same vehicle story, then compare the terms it is willing to issue.
Owner-approved editorial guide, not independently reviewed · no registration, licence, contact, payment or claim details are collected here.

01 / Give each insurer the same facts
A five-field brief makes the written answers comparable
Write this for yourself before opening an insurer’s verified enquiry route. Do not send registration, ID, licence or payment records to AfriPolicyCover: this editorial page has no application form.
Which car is it?
Registration, ownership, model, year, powertrain, battery ownership if electric, modifications, accessories, finance interest and the value the insurer will accept.
Who drives, and why?
Regular drivers, commuting, school runs, owner’s business, paid deliveries, fares, expected kilometres and any East African trip are different declarations.
What must be funded?
Third-party injury, someone else’s property, own collision, fire, theft, glass and towing need separate cover and excess checks.

Ask for a written classification. MUA company homepage describes the owner’s own business or profession, while Kenya Orient company homepage excludes PSV and hire from its private-motor description. Neither page accepts a particular paid delivery, driver or trip for your car.
02 / Choose the loss, not a label
One road incident can create three different bills
The Kenya Law consolidated Cap. 405 text is dated to 31 December 2022; its sections 4 and 5 frame a qualifying road-use third-party policy and bodily-injury risk. It does not by itself pay to fix your own car. Check current law and the accepted policy for a real transaction or dispute.
| Possible bill | Relevant cover question | Gap to price for yourself |
|---|---|---|
| Another person’s injury | Confirm the qualifying third-party liability policy, insured driver, use and legal limit. | The certificate is not a full claim decision; exclusions and statutory terms still matter. |
| Another person’s wall or vehicle | Find the selected third-party property section, contractual limit and any excess. | Do not confuse a product’s property promise with the Act’s bodily-injury minimum. |
| Your car’s fire or theft | Check whether TPFT or comprehensive was selected, the cause, security conditions and excess. | Third-party only does not establish own-car fire or theft compensation. |
| Your car’s collision repair | Ask for accepted own-damage cover, value basis, repairer/parts route and event excess. | A TPFT label need not include ordinary own-collision repair; comprehensive still has limits. |
03 / Twenty-one descriptions · ten insurers · insurer follow-up 15 October 2026
Use public product pages to frame questions, not to declare a winner
The IRA’s 30 March 2026 notice lists the ten legal general insurers behind twenty-one researched cover descriptions for Motor Private class 07. Britam, MUA and Mayfair describe three materially different levels; Cannon contrasts two. Three EV products and a mileage-bundle product belong to existing issuers. This historical research table provides extra context, not additional records in the current comparison. It is a question guide, separate from the ten-record supplied comparison. The notice dates entity/class context, not current authority or a policy for your car. Recheck the current IRA route, the legal name on the quote and the actual schedule. None of the public pages below supplies a matched accepted KSh premium.
| Legal insurer / product route | Published distinction | Written answer still needed |
|---|---|---|
| Britam company homepage | Britam presents TPO as third-party liability without fire, theft or ordinary own-car collision protection. | Which third-party liabilities and limits, car, driver and use are accepted, and what does the exact issued TPO wording exclude? |
| Britam company homepage | Britam's TPFT description adds fire/theft of the insured car to third-party liability, but its later general no-own-car sentence conflicts with that description. | Have Britam reconcile the TPFT wording in writing: which fire/theft events, security duties, limit and excess apply, and is ordinary collision still excluded? |
| Britam company homepage | This level adds accidental own-car/overturning and malicious damage to fire/theft and liability. Britam states theft has an excess and East African extension is on request. | Which car, driver, extras, event excesses, total-loss rule and named border trip appear on the selected schedule? |
| Britam company homepage | The EV page names battery/motor, cable/port and out-of-charge recovery features; its launch notice calls Battery Protect an extension. | For this electric or hybrid car, is Battery Protect selected, who owns the battery, and what limits, excess and approved repair steps apply? |
| CIC company homepage | The private-motor summary lists multiple events, not a single all-risk promise. | Which chosen level covers this driver, event, accessory and use? |
| Pioneer Assurance company homepage | Three separate third-party, TPFT and comprehensive categories are shown. | Which level and event excess are actually quoted for this car? |
| Pioneer Assurance company homepage | Battery and charging accessories are named alongside EV own-damage and liability; a support summary says up to KSh 50,000 for towing, recovery and emergency medical expense. | Is this private electric car, owned/leased battery and charging setup accepted, and what are the individual limits, excess and total KSh cost? |
| MUA company homepage | TPO excludes own-car loss; TPFT adds fire/theft but excludes own collision; comprehensive adds own accident damage. MUA calls TPFT appropriate for vehicles not used on the road. | Will MUA accept this road-used car and exact trips under the chosen level? Which extras, limits and excess were selected? |
| Kenya Orient company homepage | Its private-use description excludes PSV and hire. | How does it classify paid passenger or goods work and the regular driver? |
| Cannon company homepage | The benefits table separates TPO from comprehensive own-car protection; liability and several extras have limits or charges. | Which column is offered, and what are the exact liability, glass and accessory limits, optional sections and excess? |
| ICEA LION company homepage | Its summary names windscreen and towing figures, not unlimited extras. | Are those sections selected, capped and subject to a separate excess? |
| Mayfair company homepage | TPO is liability-only; TPFT adds insured-car fire/theft but no ordinary own collision; comprehensive adds own accident damage. Weather, riot, glass, accessories and towing may cost extra. | Which level, fire/theft trigger, extension, limit and event excess is accepted, and at what total KSh price? |
| GA Kenya company homepage | The private-motor page names own-car events and third-party liability; its separate claim process uses approved repairers. | Which events, extras and excess were selected, and when will GA authorise repair? |
| GA Kenya company homepage | The EV product names battery and charging-cable scope; a private charging station, cyber and loss-of-use sections are extensions. | Which battery and charging accessories are accepted, and were any charger or other extensions selected at a stated limit and excess? |
| GA Kenya company homepage | The published own-damage state depends on a positive kilometre balance; GA says a depleted bundle falls back to third-party, fire and theft. | How are kilometres measured, when does a top-up restore comprehensive cover, and what happens to an own-damage claim at zero balance? |
| First Assurance company homepage | Its intermediary-facing portal says comprehensive cars must be under 15 years old, shows KSh 50,000 glass, entertainment, towing and emergency-medical figures, and lists courtesy car and excess protector as extra-cost. | Do these portal terms apply to this buying channel and car? Which level, actual limits, use and excess are accepted? |
Count honestly: twenty-one insurer-owned cover descriptions from ten legal insurers, zero complete accepted comparable car policies for a matched driver, vehicle and use. GA replaced PACIS in the baseline panel after an unrelated external gambling link was found in PACIS's live HTML footer on 14 October; this is a source-integrity decision, not a licensing or solvency finding. Material cover levels, EV products and the mileage-bundle product raise different loss questions; none is an accepted quote. CIC's broad event list, Pioneer's ordinary level names, ICEA LION's conditional narrower levels and Kenya Orient's short summary are not inflated into extra selected records. A dated class-07 name or successful webpage request does not become a bindable quote, ranking or partner relationship.
04 / Compare the exact offered contract
Put the same fields beside each KSh total
Request the complete written offer and policy wording through each insurer’s independently verified route. Ask whether the price includes the full period, taxes/levies and any instalment cost; this page has no live quote or rate table.
| Field | Match between offers | Document to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Car and value | Same registration, model, accessories, accepted sum insured and total-loss valuation method. | Vehicle-specific quote and valuation note. |
| Electric car or mileage bundle, if relevant | Same battery ownership and value, selected charging equipment, annual distance, kilometre-balance rule and any top-up or fallback condition. | EV endorsement or mileage-bundle terms, balance proof and event-specific excess. |
| Driver and use | Same regular drivers, commute, owner-business, paid transport and parking declarations. | Underwriter’s written use/class acceptance. |
| Event and limit | Same collision, theft, fire, third-party property, glass, weather and towing sections. | Selected schedule, extensions and full wording. |
| Retained cost | Basic, theft, glass and driver excesses; repairer, parts and depreciation conditions. | Event-by-event excess and repair rules. |
| Time and territory | Same start and end dates, inspection or activation condition, Kenya scope and named border trip. | Certificate, territorial endorsement and start confirmation. |
| Money and exit | Same annual period, total KSh payable, instalment charges, cancellation and renewal basis. | Itemised offer, receipt and payment terms. |
05 / Invented price-versus-excess test
A smaller premium need not mean a smaller first-year bill
Suppose two fictional offers have identical accepted cover and a single KSh 80,000 own-collision repair. Assume, only for this arithmetic, that each pays every eligible charge above its stated excess, with no other limit or exclusion. These are not Kenyan insurer quotations, published prices or claim predictions.
| Invented offer | Annual premium | Collision excess | Buyer’s illustrated first-year outlay |
|---|---|---|---|
| A · lower premium | KSh 42,000 | KSh 30,000 | KSh 72,000 |
| B · lower excess | KSh 55,000 | KSh 10,000 | KSh 65,000 |
The KSh 7,000 difference is conditional, not a saving promise. With no covered claim, A’s invented premium is KSh 13,000 lower; another event, claim count, value rule, excess or excluded use changes the result.
06 / Before and after payment
Keep four records that answer four different questions
The AKI February 2026 notice names *352# and Bima Yangu for certificate authenticity. Neither certificate check establishes that a lender, ride-hailing platform or insurer accepts this car’s intended use or own-damage section.
- 1
Legal insurer
Match the full legal entity and motor class to the current IRA route. An intermediary’s brand is a separate distribution question.
- 2
Written acceptance
Save the vehicle-specific quote, selected schedule, wording, declarations, inspection/start conditions and all endorsements before payment.
- 3
Certificate record
After the insurer issues it, use the AKI check and reconcile registration, legal issuer and dates. Keep a screenshot or reference; resolve mismatches with the insurer.
- 4
Claim authority
Keep the verified claims contact and first-notice method. GA Kenya company homepage places repair authority after its review and possible assessment; ask your insurer’s own procedure.

Questions before you accept a motor offer
Read the actual contract, not just the certificate
Are these twenty-one accepted Kenyan car-insurance policies?
No. They are twenty-one insurer-owned cover descriptions from ten legal issuers with a dated IRA class-07 identity match. Several materially different cover levels come from the same issuer; they do not add legal insurers. No complete current accepted vehicle-specific policy, matched KSh premium or defensible ranking follows from the list.
Is EV battery or home-charger cover automatic?
No. Britam's launch notice calls Battery Protect an extension, and GA lists private charging-station cover as an extension. Confirm the accepted vehicle, battery ownership, selected equipment, benefit limits, excess and repair route in the issued terms.
What happens if my DriveFlex kilometres run out?
GA's public FAQ says the cover changes from comprehensive to third-party, fire and theft at zero kilometre balance. Ask when a top-up takes effect, how the balance is measured and what the accepted contract says for a loss at that time.
What does Kenyan third-party insurance have to do with road use?
Sections 4 and 5 of the dated Kenya Law Cap. 405 text frame the qualifying road-use policy and bodily-injury risk. Check current law and the issued cover for your vehicle; the obligation is not your own-car repair benefit.
Does third-party insurance repair my own car?
Not merely because the certificate is valid. Ask for a selected own-damage section and its event, value, repair and excess rules.
Is third-party property damage automatically the statutory minimum?
Do not assume that. Read the contract’s property-liability section and limit separately from the Act’s bodily-injury requirement. A product page’s broad phrasing is not legal advice.
Does TPFT cover my own collision damage?
Not by the level name. TPFT commonly addresses selected fire and theft risks, while ordinary own-collision repair needs an accepted own-damage section; check the insurer’s exact wording.
Can my private policy cover delivery or ride-hailing?
Only if the legal insurer accepts the actual paid activity, vehicle and driver in writing. MUA’s owner-business description is not automatic delivery permission; Kenya Orient excludes PSV and hire from its private description.
Does a Britam page extend my car across East Africa?
It says an extension can be requested. Obtain the named countries, dates and accepted endorsement before travel.
Are windscreen, towing, weather and accessories included?
Not universally. MUA and Mayfair present several as optional; ICEA LION publishes summary limits. Check selection, sub-limit, conditions and excess on your schedule.
Which Kenyan car insurer is cheapest?
No like-for-like accepted KSh quote panel exists here. Match the same vehicle, driver, use, benefits, excess and payment period; a lower premium can leave a higher claim-time cost.
What does *352# or Bima Yangu prove?
AKI describes these as certificate-authenticity checks. They do not verify own-car benefits, a paid premium, accepted use or a future claim outcome.
What should I collect after payment?
Keep the legal insurer’s receipt, certificate, schedule, full wording, declaration, endorsements, payment period and verified claim contact together. Reconcile any mismatch promptly.
Can I send a claim or vehicle registration through this guide?
No. This editorial page has no intake, quote, purchase, verification integration or provider redirect. Use the insurer’s independently verified channel and retain its written response.
